Adamsdown:

The district of Adamsdown is in the south of Cardiff and the area comprises of the Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Cardiff Prison, and many streets of residential housing.

Adamsdown EAG and Adamsdown Community Garden:

This group was set up in 2006 as a group to revitalise the garden at EAG Logothe back of the resource centre at Adamsdown Environmental Action Group.

Ran by volunteers 3and supported by C1st since delivering some much needed environmental projects around Adamsdown in central Cardiff (including Anderson fields Art-y-Parc, Fox Lane Murals, litter picks and of course maintaining the beautiful award winning community garden.

AEG/Community Garden is open to all ages (under 18’s to be supervised by an adult) and abilities we meet every Sunday at 1pm till approx. 4pm from Spring to early winter (with a break over the cold months!) in the community garden at 10g Moira Terrance (CF24 0EJ).

We have regular committee meetings that are scheduled via email once every few months to discuss budget, funding, strategy and chipping in new ideas.

Butetown

The district of Butetown has been synonymous with Cardiff history of the docks and its redevelopment at the turn of the century. Please contact Your Cathays and tell us about events in Butetown which we can add to this section.

Butetown History & Arts Centre:

This important historical site recounts information on one of the Butetown History & Arts Centrefounding districts of Cardiff yesteryear. 27 years ago, with a group of residents from the local community, co-founded what has become the Butetown History & Arts Centre.

Butetown History & Arts Centre collects, preserves and inteprets the history of immgrants and minorities in Wales from the Victorian period to the present. Our main focus is on Cardiff docklands

Caerau

The Caerau district is in the West of Cardiff near to Ely and Canton.

Canton

Canton is a socially enrichened diverse district and one of best kept secrets in Cardiff. A place of artist, pioneers and start up groups over the last few decades.

Cardiff Taffs Community Currency:

Community currencies are all about getting back a sense of Cardiff Taffs - Intro Logocommunity spirit. As a group we exchange all kinds of goods and services with each other, using online community credits and paper Taffs notes that can be withdrawn at Taffs trading sessions. You might earn credits by painting for a neighbour, then you could spend those credits getting computer help from someone else in the group. So the circle goes on, always helping people in our community. Our credits are called “Taffs”, and you should value them at about one pound each. If you value community spirit then this will be just the thing for you!

Fair Do’s:

This amazing Fair Trade pioneering and supportive shop based in Fair Do's LogoCanton since the turn of the century have done a great deal to support Fair Trade in Cardiff and raising awareness elsewhere.

Cathays and Central

The city centre of Cardiff (part of the Cathays district) is renowned and progressive European city with a great deal to offer everyone.

The district of Cathays has gone through a lot of transition from being a tight knit community to what some now currently and incorrectly perceive as a student ghetto – when it is in fact a very socially rich and diverse (amongst all demographics) resident dense area with the hardcopy Y/C newsletter going to 1000 residents homes (outside the city centre).

Many long term residents live in Cathays consisting of families, senior citizens, professionals and postgraduate community who identify Cathays as their home.

Creigiau

The district of Greigiau is to the North West of Cardiff.

Grangetown

The district of Grangetown has seen real recent development of communities taking direct action to improve the area.

The main Grangetown Community group have achieved significant work to bring this very population dense (18,000 residents) district of Cardiff together.

Grangetown Community Group:

In 2015 Grangetown Community (working with Keep Wales Tidy, Grangetown CommunityCardiff Rivers Group and others) began litter picking exercises as an opportunity for bringing Grangetown residents together to voice their concerns.

The ‘Keep Grangetown Tidy’ efforts will be discussed at successive Grangetown PACT meetings so that the residents can decide what area to target next at successive litter picks.

The Grangetown PACT is another platform to bring together the residents and local businesses to voice their concerns and see what opportunities exist to improve this culturally diverse area.

EggSeeds:

This wonderful organisations (check their website forEggSeeds Logo awards!) undertakes many activities to engage all age groups (from primary school up to senior citizens) and reconnecting society with livestock and the responsibilities of rearing chickens and eggs etc.

This is an important step to us becoming more self reliant as well as engaged with nature. Come on – you all want a chicken in your yard!

Llanishen

The local battle of the Llanishen Reservoir was finally won by the residents and they managed to halt any housing development, and that Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water (a social enterprise) will refill the reservoir once all inspection work is undertaken.

Llanrumney Community Forum:

The Llanrumney Community Forum was established for you to get Llanrumney Community Forumyour voice heard. What ideas, issues and ventures can be undertaken in East Cardiff to support the community.

As it defines on their FB page: “The forum has been set up for the benefit of all Llanrumney residents, without discriminating against age, sex, race, politics or religious orientation, to improve the quality of life, employability, health and sense of unity in the community.” Please get involved with LCF.
Pentwyn

The district of Pentyrch is based in the north-west of Cardiff.

The ‘We Love Pentyrch’ Facebook page exist to encourage a greater distribution and awareness of contemporary Pentyrch issues – join in and see what is happening in your area!

Pen Y Lan

The Pen Y Lan district is often cited as Roath district on polling categories, tax bands etc – yet many locals have a perception that Pen Y Lan is separate to Roath.

Studio 22:

Studio 22 is a recording and rehearsal music studio for young people.Studio 22 It is based at the Howardian Centre off Colchester avenue, Penylan and is part of the Howardian Youth Centre’s youth provision. Get involved – get your music noticed!

It is available to young people aged 10 to 25 through out the week and includes 2 practice rooms and 2 digital recording suites. Band Practice costs £1 an hour per person.

Plasnewydd

The district of Plasnewydd is based near to centre of the city and connects with City Road and Newport Road.

YMCA Plas/Plasnewydd Community Hall was established for the local community. It has an indoor sports hall, two badmington courts and a function/committee room for you to hire out or have public meetings. You can find their location here.

Plasnewydd Community Garden was established in the earlyPlasnewydd Community Garden Project 2010’s to encourage greater access for people in the surrounding area to meet their neighbours and enjoy planting and growing fruit, vegetables and wildflowers.

They meet every Saturday 10am to 1pm to work on the garden. They are based behind the outside courts of the Plasnewydd Community Hall. You can find further details on the Plasnewydd Community Garden Twitter page.

Riverside

The Riverside district is adjacent to the city centre and the rugby stadium. It is a very diverse community with a lot of strong local links. It is the prime location for the original Riverside Farmers Market which runs every Sunday from 10am.

South Riverside Community Development Centre:

South Riverside Community Development Centre is a CompanySRCDC - Logo Limited by Guarantee and a registered charity based in Cardiff. Set up around 1975, and registered as a charity in 1978, SRCDC bought its premises in 1987 and renovated the Centre building

Roath

Roath district is really stepping up with a holistic community approach attempting to engage all residents and businesses about the riches of Roath. Here are some examples below:

Rumney

Splott

The district of Splott is to the East of the Cathays/Central Cardiff area.

Communities First for Splott is part of the STAR group. Funded by the Welsh Government to help improve the lives of people living in STAR Communities Firstthe most deprived areas in Wales.

STAR Communities First works across Splott, Tremorfa, Adamsdown and Plasnewydd. STAR will work with residents, community organisations, businesses and other key agencies in the area, involving local people in all aspects of this work.

The Programme has four key themes: Prosperity, Learning, Health and Community Involvement.
