Set up by a mix of residents, councillors and Keep Wales Tidy – Keep Cathays Tidy has been produced to encourage more community empowerment of waste minimisation, building links to local neighbours, businesses etc. and taking pride in your district!
First bit of business – for everybody in Cathays – make sure you put your recycling and food caddies out EVERY week. The waste that you can not recycle or compost – use the calendar below for Sept 2017-August 2018.
This map shows the existing areas that groups within Keep Cathays Tidy maintain. Over the years KCT hope to populate this map with many litter pick groups, planting Cathays projects, built environment community improvements etc.
Every month a regular litter pick is planned (check out Facebook and Twitter links below to see when/where next events will be) to bring the community together and target areas where there is some litter blight. All residents and encouraged to recommend areas of Cathays they’d like to see given some community attention.
- A monthly mass litter pick (usually 2nd Saturday of every month) of specific targeted areas (nominated by residents)
- Weekly small scale clean ups with residents, faith groups and local businesses clean up/maintain their own streets.
- Improving green spaces via planting wildflowers, removing weeds/over growth.
- Collaborating on improving aesthetic appearance across all Cathays.
Additionally several smaller Keep Cathays Tidy groups (and individuals on 5 streets) gather on an almost weekly basis to keep on top the litter in their respective areas.
Cardiff Rivers Group – est 2009 – a pivotal example across Cardiff of volunteers getting together and ‘making a difference!!’ ( – who is the Masked Avenger? )
