The postgraduate community of any university will always face some level of isolation post-Semester B with many of their peers disappearing once exams re done to focus on their dissertations back home. The resident have a lot of children, grandchildren who are PG’s in the community and actively support many of you in the summer period!
This page has been created aside from the Cathays student guidance page to support our PG’s from 4 different colleges based across Cathays.
With an overall 30,000 students – 5000 PG’s – even with 10% ‘left behind’ in Cathays over each summer; that is 500 people – a lot of socially isolated individuals who may benefit from meeting other PG’s at postgrad and resident events.
Here are some groups that may be of interest to you. Although many of them are Cardiff University based – this is NOT exclusive and they all attempt to outreach to all PG communities across Cardiff.
“Does as it says on the tin!” A very popular which Y/C has supported when contacted by journalism postgrads which we’ve put in touch with relevant groups/persons to help the PG journalism lot !! Join this popular group and support your outreach work in Cathays and make friends to help get you through the summer!
This group is run by the school of social Sciences postgrad community yet they try every year to bring more people from multiple departments to monthly discussions to support many cope with the Master/Doctoral processes.
Several residents have also attended the universities PG Café and have commented how it has helped their Open University work a great deal.
For Cardiff University, Welsh College, Cardiff Met and University of South Wales Postgrads we strongly encourage you to join this group.
This group was set up for engineering, maths, coding PG’s who may have an interest to join public talks, informal meetings on engineering at PG level.
